Ecoglo® E20 Series | Yellow Photoluminescent Step Edge Contrast Strip

Ecoglo® E2051 Yellow Luminescent Contrast Strips, 1.5" Wide | E20

Ecoglo® E2051 is the yellow anti-slip model in the E20 Series of 1.5-inch-wide photoluminescent step-edge contrast strips. Designed to improve stair-edge visibility in normal lighting and darkness, E2051 combines Ecoglo® photoluminescent technology with a durable yellow silicon-carbide anti-slip surface on a rigid aluminum base.

Model: E2051 E20 Series Yellow Anti-Slip 1.5" Wide Indoor & Outdoor UL 1994 / ULC 572 Listed
Quick Answer: Ecoglo® E2051 is the yellow model in the E20 Series of photoluminescent stair-edge contrast strips. The aluminum profile is approximately 1.5 inches (37.3 mm) wide and 0.1 inches (1.8 mm) high, combining approximately 0.6 inches of photoluminescent material with a 0.9-inch yellow silicon-carbide anti-slip area. It is designed to improve step-edge visibility in normal lighting and darkness.

Yellow Photoluminescent Stair Edge Contrast Strip for Safer Egress

Ecoglo® E2051 is designed for stairways where architects, contractors, estimators, property managers, facility operators and building owners require a durable combination of step-edge contrast, slip resistance and photoluminescent visibility.

In normal lighting, the high-visibility yellow anti-slip surface helps create strong stair-edge definition alongside the light-colored photoluminescent section, helping visually define the leading edge of each step. When normal lighting is reduced or lost, the charged photoluminescent material emits visible light without requiring electricity, batteries or wiring at the stair edge.

The low-profile rigid aluminum strip can be installed on suitable concrete, metal and wood stair surfaces using premium polyurethane adhesive. Mechanical fasteners are also an installation option for appropriate indoor applications.

1.5-Inch Low-Profile Design

The E20 profile measures approximately 1.5 inches wide and only 0.1 inches high, creating a durable, low-profile step-edge marking.

Yellow Silicon-Carbide Anti-Slip

Hard-wearing yellow silicon-carbide material is integrally bonded to the aluminum substrate to provide durable traction and strong visual contrast.

Passive Emergency Visibility

Ecoglo® photoluminescent technology stores energy from suitable ambient light and remains visible when normal illumination is reduced.

Construction, Submittal & Inspection Readiness

How Ecoglo® E2051 Can Help Simplify Large-Project Specification

On commercial, government and institutional projects, clearly identifying the required stair-edge product during design and procurement can help reduce incorrect substitutions, missing documentation and avoidable field changes.

Identifying the exact manufacturer → series → model → color → technical data → installation creates a clearer documentation path from specification through installation.

1 Specify the Exact Model

Identify the product as Ecoglo® E2051 Yellow, E20 Series rather than using only a generic description such as “photoluminescent stair strip.”

2 Confirm the Required Width

Confirm that the approximately 1.5-inch-wide E20 profile is appropriate for the architectural stair detail and project specification.

3 Include the Manufacturer Data Sheet

Include the E20 Series technical data sheet in the project submittal so dimensions, materials, installation and performance information can be reviewed.

4 Confirm Installation Surface

Verify that the stair substrate and surface condition are suitable for the manufacturer's specified installation method.

5 Coordinate Lengths and Quantities

Confirm required stair widths, field dimensions and quantities before releasing material for fabrication or cutting.

6 Keep Documentation for Final Review

Retain approved product submittals, technical documentation, installation information and model identification for consultant and inspection review.

Ecoglo® Photoluminescent Stair Strips

FAQ

How do Ecoglo® contrast strips work?

Ecoglo®’s stair strips absorb ambient light—natural or artificial—and store energy. In the dark, they emit a bright glow for hours, marking step edges clearly without electricity or batteries.

How long do the strips glow in darkness?

Fully charged strips can glow for 6–12 hours, depending on light exposure. They recharge quickly under standard lighting conditions.

Are these strips code-compliant?

Yes, Ecoglo E20 strips meet IBC, IFC, OSHA, and local building codes for egress path markings and visibility in emergency conditions.

Why are continuous lines of luminance important in evacuation paths?

Continuous lines of photoluminescent markings along evacuation routes—especially on steps, handrails, and landings—help guide evacuees safely, even in darkness or smoke.

Unlike overhead lighting, photoluminescent stairway guidance (SWG) systems are placed low and remain visible beneath smoke layers, ensuring people can clearly see where to place their hands and feet during an emergency.

Can Ecoglo® contrast strips be used outdoors?

Yes. Ecoglo® contrast strips are UV-resistant, weatherproof, and suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications—ideal for stairwells, ramps, loading docks, and fire exits.

  • Tested to accelerated UV/weathering exposure, and proven to be highly resistant to the effects of UV/weathering.
  • The loss in performance is less than can be detected by the human eye when subjected to 6000 hours of UV exposure, which is similar to 30 years of outdoor exposure.
  • The polymer used in Ecoglo®’s patented process is “long chain” which forms a strong UV resistant product when bonding.

How is the installed durability?

The rigid aluminum base spreads any applied load over a greater area of installation adhesive. Installation with a premium polyurethane adhesive/sealant is extremely durable, moisture resistant, and works very well on both smooth and textured surfaces.

How are the Ecoglo® photoluminescent strips installed?

Installation is simple: use adhesive (recommended for indoor use) or mechanical fasteners for extra durability outdoors or in high-traffic areas.

Are the Ecoglo® luminiscent strips slip-resistant?

Yes. Ecoglo® luminiscent strips feature high-traction ridges made of silicon carbide, bonded to an aluminum base for excellent slip resistance—even in wet or oily conditions.
