Is Ecoglo® F4-N20 compliant with recognized safety standards?
Ecoglo® F4-N20 is designed to improve stair safety through enhanced traction and step edge visibility. For project-specific compliance, always confirm the exact code and performance requirements with your architect, consultant, or AHJ.
Is Ecoglo® F4-N20 suitable for egress pathways?
Yes. It can be used in egress pathways where improved slip resistance and visible step edge contrast are important. However, it is not a photoluminescent glow-in-the-dark system.
What does “egress-ready” mean for stair nosing?
For standard stair nosing, it generally means helping improve traction and edge visibility so stairs are safer to use. For projects that require visibility in darkness or during power failure, a photoluminescent stair nosing system may also be necessary.
Do these stair nosings glow in the dark?
No. The Ecoglo® F4-N20 stair nosings do not glow in the dark. They rely on high-contrast colors for visibility. For glow-in-the-dark performance and emergency egress compliance, a photoluminescent stair nosing system is required.
If your project requires glow-in-the-dark visibility for emergency egress, you’ll need a photoluminescent model like Ecoglo® C4-E20 luminescent stair nosing .

What is the difference between step edge contrast and visibility?
Step edge contrast refers to using contrasting colors such as yellow, black, or grey to make the front edge of each step easier to see in normal lighting.
Visibility refers to how clearly the stairs can be seen in changing lighting conditions. High contrast improves daytime and low-light awareness, but true visibility in darkness requires photoluminescent technology.
Is Ecoglo® F4-N20 visible in low light or at night?
Yes. Its high-contrast inserts help make stair edges easier to identify in low-light environments. Yellow typically offers the strongest visual contrast.

Installed Durability:
- The rigid aluminum base spreads any applied load over a greater area of installation adhesive. Installation with a premium polyurethane adhesive/sealant is extremely durable, moisture resistant, and works very well on both smooth and textured surfaces.
For Indoor Use and Outdoor Use:
- Tested to accelerated UV/weathering exposure, and proven to be highly resistant to the effects of UV/weathering.
- The loss in performance is less than can be detected by the human eye when subjected to 6000 hours of UV exposure, which is similar to 30 years of outdoor exposure.
- The polymer used in Ecoglo’s patented process is “long chain” which forms a strong UV resistant product when bonding.
